HEAVY MELTING STEEL – HMS 1&2 (ISRI 200-206)

Heavy melting steel (HMS) or heavy melting scrap is broken up into two major categories:

HMS 1 and HMS 2, where HMS 1 does not contain galvanized and blackened steel, whereas HMS 2 does. HMS is typically traded as a blend of 1 and 2, either a premium blend (80/20) or lower grade mixes (70/30) and (60/40). For example, HMS 1 and 2 (80/20) should consist of HMS 1 and 2 in the ratio of 80% (HMS 1) and 20% (HMS 2).Each grade guarantees a minimum piece thickness: at least 1/4 inch (6.3 mm) for HMS 1, and 1/8 in for HMS 2 .

Technical Data Description
ISRI SPEC 200 (HMS 1) Wrought iron and/or steel scrap 1/4 inch and larger in thickness. All pieces must be smaller than 60×24 in.
ISRI SPEC 201 (HMS 1) Same as ISRI 200 except pieces must be smaller than 36×18 in.
ISRI SPEC 202 (HMS 1) Same as ISRI 200 except pieces must be smaller than 60×18 in.
ISRI SPEC 203 (HMS 2) Wrought iron and/or steel scrap, black and galvanized, 1/8 inch and larger in thickness.
ISRI SPEC 204 (HMS 2) Same as ISRI 203 except pieces must be smaller than 36×18 in.
ISRI SPEC 205 (HMS 2) Same as ISRI 204 except it may contain automotive scrap, except for thin guage material.
ISRI SPEC 206 (HMS 2) Same as ISRI 205 except pieces must be smaller than 60×18 in.

R50 – R65 RAIL SCRAP

The chemical composition is the standard for R50 & R65 rails, original weight 50 pounds per yard or heavier, 6 meters long and over. Material to be suitable for re-rolling into bars and shapes. Free from bent and twisted Rails, frog, switch and guard rails, rails with split heads and broken flanges. Continuous welded rail may be included provided no weld is over 9 inches from the end of a piece of rail. Free from fluff, nonferrous inclusions excessive rust and other impurities. Free from war and explosives, shells, cartridges, other arms and ammunitions used or otherwise and any closed containers. Free from any radioactive materials, any harmful chemicals, substances and coatings any organic waste, any other harmful substances. Dirt, dust, rust, fluff and other impurities not allowed over 5%.

Auto Bundle

New black steel sheet scrap, clippings or skeleton scrap, compressed or hand bundled, to charging box size, and weighing not less than 75 pounds per cubic foot. (Hand bundles are tightly secured for handling with a magnet.) May include Stanley balls or mandrel wound bundles or skeleton reels, tightly secured. May include chemically detinned material. May not include old auto body or fender stock. Free of metal coated, limed, vitreous enameled, and electrical sheet containing over 0.5 percent silicon.

209 – No. 2 Bundles

Old black and galvanized steel sheet scrap, hydraulically compressed to charging box size and weighing not less than 75 pounds per cubic foot. May not include tin or lead-coated material or vitreous enameled material.

NO. 1 BUSHELING SCRAP

Clean steel scrap, maximum size 2 feet by 5 feet, including new factory busheling (for example, sheet clippings, stampings, etc.). May not include old auto body and fender stock. Free of metal coated, limed, vitreous enameled, and electrical sheet containing over 0.5 percent silicon.
